Events are demand-impacting signals — such as promotions, markdowns, seasonality shifts, or anomalies — that Toolio automatically detects or lets you define manually. The Events page gives you a single place to view, create, and manage these signals so you can understand what drove historical demand and apply that knowledge to improve your ML forecasts.
The Events page is located under the Intelligence section in the left navigation.
Use Cases
Review automatically detected events to understand what disrupted historical demand — without manual investigation.
Create custom events for known upcoming promotions or markdowns when you already know the expected impact.
Reuse a proven historical event for a future planning scenario by applying its impact metrics directly.
Control which demand signals influence your downstream ML forecasting.
The Events Page
The Events page uses Toolio's familiar Excel-style grid. Each row represents one event — either detected (surfaced automatically by the system) or custom (created by you).
Event Fields
Every event displays the following information:
Field | Description |
Event ID | Unique identifier for the event |
Timeframe | Event start and end dates |
Impact Percentage | Estimated demand impact as a percentage |
Mean Absolute Change | Average observed change in demand |
Choice Scope | Products associated with this event |
Location Scope | Locations associated with this event |
Source | Whether the event is Detected or Custom |
Detected Events
Detected events are surfaced automatically by Toolio based on historical demand patterns. They appear directly in the Events page without any setup required.
Use detected events to quickly identify promotions, markdowns, seasonality spikes, or anomalies that influenced past sales.
Each detected event includes:
Impact Percentage
Mean Absolute Change
Choice and Location scope
Event timeframe
Creating a Custom Event
You can create a custom event using two methods: defining it manually from scratch, or reusing an existing detected event.
Option A: Manual Event Creation
Use this option when you already know the expected impact of an upcoming event.
Navigate to the Events page under Intelligence.
Select your Choice filters to scope the event to specific products.
Select your Location filters to scope the event to specific locations.
Enter the event Timeframe (start and end dates).
Enter the Impact Percentage.
Click
Saveto add the event.
Option B: Reuse a Historical Event
Use this option to replicate a proven past event for a future planning scenario — for example, reapplying last year's holiday promotion.
Select an existing Event ID from the detected events in the grid.
Toolio automatically populates the impact metrics and event details from the original event.
Adjust the Timeframe and any other fields as needed.
Click
Saveto create the event.
Filtering Events
The Events page includes a unified filter panel for Choice and Location. Filters update the grid immediately, so you can quickly narrow down events to the products and locations you care about.
You can:
Apply multiple Choice filters simultaneously
Apply multiple Location filters simultaneously
Combine Choice and Location filters in a single view
Managing Events
You can edit or delete events directly from the grid using inline actions. The Source column makes it easy to distinguish system-generated events from ones you created manually.
Edit
Click Edit on any event row to modify its details — timeframe, impact percentage, Choice scope, or Location scope.
Delete
Click Delete to remove a custom event. Detected events are read-only and cannot be deleted.
Forecasting Support
Events are currently applied to ML Forecasting workflows. Support for Statistical Forecasting is planned for a future phase.
Additional capabilities coming in Phase 2:
Event Categories
Stockout signal support
Event import functionality
FAQs
Can I Delete a Detected Event?
No. Detected events are read-only. You can choose not to include a detected event in your forecast by not selecting it — but it will remain visible in the grid.
Can I Use Events With Statistical Forecasting?
Not yet. Events are currently supported for ML Forecasting only. Statistical Forecasting support is planned for a future phase.
What Does Impact Percentage Represent?
Impact Percentage is the estimated change in demand attributed to the event. A positive value indicates a demand lift; a negative value indicates a demand suppression.
What Is Mean Absolute Change?
Mean Absolute Change is the average absolute shift in demand observed during the event window, expressed in units rather than as a percentage.
What Is the Difference Between Choice Scope and Location Scope?
Choice Scope defines which products (choices) the event is associated with. Location Scope defines which stores or distribution centers are included. Both can be set when creating a custom event.
