Tooli Insights

Tooli Insights is a smart analytics capability built into Toolio's AI Assistant that helps you understand your business performance across time — fast.

Updated today

It delivers automated, data-driven insights at both category and product levels, pulling from your actuals and plans to answer questions like "How did I perform last week?", "What performed best last month?", or "What do you recommend I do?"

Whether it's last week, this month, or next month — Tooli Insights helps you understand what happened, why it happened, and what actions to take.

With the latest release, Tooli Insights is also available inside the Merchandise Financial Planning (MFP) module, enabling planners to ask contextual planning questions directly within their workflow.

What is Tooli Insights?

Tooli Insights is a smart performance analytics assistant built into Toolio's AI Assistant chatbot. It helps you understand how your business is performing — by week, month, or across categories and products.

Just ask questions like:

  • "How did I perform last week?"

  • "Which products underperformed last month?"

  • "Any actions you recommend?"

Toolio responds with structured, actionable answers using your actuals and plans.

How Does It Work?

Whenever you ask the AI Assistant a performance-related question, Toolio automatically determines whether the query fits Tooli Insights.

Here's how you can access Tooli through the chatbot:

Here's an example of the response Tooli returns:

What Happens Under the Hood:

  1. Your query is classified as performance or planning related

  2. Tooli identifies the active module and context

  3. The system retrieves relevant actual and plan metrics

  4. Data is grouped by your product hierarchy (Division, Department, Class, etc.)

  5. Tooli generates an insight-rich response instantly

Even if your tenant doesn't have formal Toolio report views set up for weekly or monthly performance, you'll still get insights using your existing product hierarchy data.

How Tooli Understands Context

Tooli automatically understands the context of your question using the page you're currently working on.

Module Awareness

Tooli detects the module from the current page URL and automatically retrieves data from the relevant module.

Examples:

  • If you're in Merchandise Financial Planning (MFP) → Tooli responds using MFP data

  • If you're in Assortment Planning (AP) → Tooli responds using AP data

  • If you're in another module → Tooli asks clarification for the module

You don't need to specify the module in your question.

Scenario Awareness

If you reference a scenario in your question, Tooli will analyze that scenario. If no scenario is specified, Tooli automatically assumes the Master scenario.

Example:

User: "How is Women's Outerwear performing?"

Tooli will analyze the Master scenario unless another scenario is mentioned.

Timeframe Awareness

Tooli understands timeframes in natural language. Examples: "last week", "this month", "next 4 weeks", "last season."

If no timeframe is specified, Tooli assumes the last season (last 13 weeks).

Conversational Insights

Tooli Insights supports interactive, conversational analysis. After answering your question, Tooli may ask follow-up questions to help refine the analysis based on product hierarchy, metrics, scenarios, or time periods.

Example interaction:

User: "How did the Women's division perform last week?"

Tooli: "Women's Division exceeded plan by 5%. Would you like to see performance by department?"

This conversational flow allows you to quickly drill down into the drivers behind performance.

Real-Time Scenario Exploration

Tooli Insights supports real-time scenario analysis. You can create a new scenario and immediately ask Tooli questions about it — Tooli will analyze the scenario instantly, without waiting for data refresh cycles. This enables fast experimentation and rapid planning decisions.

What Data Does It Use?

Tooli Insights pulls from both historical actuals and forward-looking plans, including:

Time Frame

Type

What Can I Ask?

When working in the Merchandise Financial Planning (MFP) module, you can ask Tooli questions about performance, plans, forecasts, inventory, and recommendations.

Performance & Variance

  • "How did my sales perform vs. plan last week?"

  • "How are receipts tracking vs. last year?"

  • "What's the impact of returns on my gross to net sales?"

Time-Based Analysis

  • "How did we do in Q2 compared to plan?"

  • "What's my forecast for the next 4 weeks?"

  • "What's the plan for next month by department?"

  • "How does this season compare to last season?"

Hierarchy Deep Dives

  • "What actions do you recommend based on my current plan?"

  • "Should I mark down any categories this month?"

  • "What's driving the biggest gap between actuals and plan?"

  • "Which categories should I chase in the next 4 weeks?"

Follow-Up Questions

After Tooli provides an answer, you can continue the conversation to explore deeper insights:

  • "Can you break this down by division or class?"

  • "Show me more detail by subclass."

  • "What's the variance by region or store?"

  • "How does this compare to my last year performance?"

Assumptions & Limitations

To provide fast responses, Tooli applies several default assumptions and current system limitations.

  • Default Scenario: If a scenario is not specified in your question, Tooli assumes the Master scenario.

  • Default Timeframe: If no timeframe is specified, Tooli assumes the last season (last 13 weeks).

  • Derived Metrics: Derived metrics are not currently supported. Support for derived metrics is planned for a future release.

  • Very Large Data Queries: For extremely granular queries requiring very large data retrieval, Tooli may return a failure message to maintain system performance

FAQs

Do I Need Anything Special to Use Tooli Insights?

Not necessarily! If your AI Assistant is enabled and your product hierarchy is configured, Tooli Insights will already respond to your performance questions.

Can I Ask Questions About "Last Month" or "Next Week"?

Yes! Tooli Insights is not limited to Mondays or weekly reports. You can ask "How did I perform last month?" or "What's my plan for the next 4 weeks?" — Toolio supports insights across a range of time frames as long as the data is available.

What Happens If the Weekly Report View Isn't Configured for My Tenant?

Toolio will still answer performance-related questions using the product hierarchy and available sales data. For example, you can ask "How did Men's Outerwear perform last week?" and get meaningful answers — even without full configuration.

What Follow-Up Questions Can I Ask?

After you get a high-level insight, try asking "Can you give me more detail?", "Which products had the biggest impact?", "Any recommendations?", or "How does this compare to my plan?" Toolio will dive deeper using your configured hierarchy and underlying performance data.
