The Forward Inventory Position view is a new out-of-the-box Assortment Plan view, paired with a Current Week + Next 26 Weeks dataset, that gives you a forward-looking snapshot of inventory position and receipt plan. Use it to identify inventory risks and opportunities before they impact the business — without building your own reporting.
Use Cases
Spot styles with the lowest inventory coverage before they stock out.
Identify potential lost sales and confirm whether they're hitting your highest-volume products.
See which receipts still need to be placed and where to prioritize additional buys.
Check whether inventory can support upcoming promotions or markdown events.
What the View Includes
The view is built on the Current Week + Next 26 Weeks dataset and includes:
Beginning of Period (BOP) Inventory
Forward Weeks of Supply
Gross Sales Units (Current Week + Next 26 Weeks)
Percent of Total Sales Plan
Potential Lost Sales
Receipt Plan
Units On Order
Additional Receipts Left to Place
By default, the view is configured at the choice level so you can prioritize individual products. You can group it by dimensions such as Department, Division, Brand, Channel, or Class to support broader assortment reviews.
Forward Weeks of Supply Enhancement
The Forward Weeks of Supply metric has been enhanced. Previously, the calculation was capped by the number of weeks included in the dataset — if inventory extended beyond the dataset horizon, the metric stopped at that maximum value.
Now, if inventory exceeds the available weeks, the calculation uses the average planned sales beyond the dataset horizon to estimate the remaining coverage. This produces a more accurate, truly forward-looking Weeks of Supply metric.
Built-In Exception Highlighting
The view includes conditional formatting to help you quickly identify areas that need attention:
Forward Weeks of Supply is highlighted when coverage falls below 4 weeks, making it easy to identify products at risk of stocking out.
Potential Lost Sales is highlighted whenever the value is greater than zero, helping you quickly identify where current receipts may not be sufficient to support demand.
These thresholds can be adjusted to align with your organization's planning practices.
Recommended Workflow
Many planners use this view as a daily exception report:
Review products with fewer than four weeks of supply.
Identify products with potential lost sales.
Prioritize high-volume styles using Percent of Total Sales Plan.
Review receipts left to place.
Decide whether to chase inventory, adjust receipts, delay promotions, or accept the inventory risk.
FAQs
What time horizon does this view cover?
The view uses the Current Week + Next 26 Weeks dataset, giving you roughly six months of forward visibility into inventory and receipts.
How is Forward Weeks of Supply calculated when it extends past the dataset horizon?
If inventory exceeds the weeks available in the dataset, Toolio uses the average planned sales beyond the dataset horizon to estimate the remaining coverage, rather than capping the metric at the dataset's maximum.
Can I change the exception highlighting thresholds?
Yes. The Forward Weeks of Supply and Potential Lost Sales thresholds can be adjusted to match your organization's planning practices.
