When doing top-down or bottom-up planning, you might want to hold specific months or dimensions constant. Locking allows you to freeze values so that spreading does not update them.
Using Top Locking to Adjust Plans
There are a number of situations where locking totals can be useful when creating a plan. For example, you may want to maintain your Gross Sales Retail Total at for the year at a certain figure while adjusting the percentage breakdown of Gross Sales Retail at the department level.
As demonstrated above, it is important to only lock the Plan Total value. Since our goal is to adjust the % of TTL Plan at the department level (Women, Men, Kids), it is crucial that the department level totals (outlined in blue) are not locked. After right clicking on the Plan Total value, please select Lock, from there you can choose to:
Lock Time will lock a single time frame. In the example below, only the totals time frame was locked.
Lock Attribute will lock all values for a specified attribute across the entire time frame you have pulled into the view. In the example below, we have locked the attribute for the time frame.
Now, we are able to make any adjustments to the % of TTL Plan values as we see fit while ensuring that the Plan Total is maintained.
